10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

Spring cleaning isn’t exciting for a lot of us. But it needs to be done. As the holidays and winter end and we begin looking forward to spring and warmer weather, something within us encourages us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and throwing away things we’ve hoarded over the winter months.

But who says spring cleaning is limited to the interior of your house?
The outside of your house could likely use some tidying up after a cold, dreary winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will improve the curb appeal of your house in Glendale, and, even more important, will offer much-needed maintenance and upkeep that will save a lot ofmoney in years to come.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the best time of year to clean out your gutters, because a lot of leaves and debris collect during the fall and winter months. The pollen count is at its highest during the spring, making a big mess in your gutters if they are not properly cleaned.

Plus, bugs and critters are searching for places to build homes during spring, so getting your gutters cleaned out will help prevent an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning will consist of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and rust stains and restoring them to a like-new appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Exterior window cleaning is a must for spring cleaning. First floor windows won’t give you too much of a headache, but any second and third floor windows are trickier to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is a tiring job, and will require a lot of supplies, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your home’s windows is the perfect way to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You aren’t going to want clean gutters and windows on a dirty house. Which means you are going to want to pressure wash your house too!

Pressure washing is quick, effective and affordable. You can clean your house, patio furniture, patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with very little effort. It will eliminate dirt and mud so they will not permanently stain your house, and you can also prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a good cleaning might seem strange because you will be driving on it, but, a clean, well-maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.

A professional pressure washer will do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it is concrete, asphalt, brick or some other material. Also consider adding a gravel or mulch border to your home’s driveway to really help it stand out!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your home’s patio probably gets the most use during the summer months, so it can be easy to overlook it during the winter when you are not doing as much outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio could be in rough condition the first time you go onto it in the spring.

Detergent and water – and a little muscle – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you see signs of mold or mildew, you might need to consider a more serious option, like power washing, to ensure that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer long.

6. Roof Cleaning

Algae and moss are common roof issues in Glendale. While you are cleaning the outside of your house, it is an excellent time to clean your home’s roof too, but you will need to use a different method than the one you use for the rest of your home’s exterior cleaning.

If you start to see streaks on your home’s roof, algae is most likely the cause. Moss is pretty obvious, too. These particles can’t be wiped off of shingles, nor can you power wash the roof of your house. Both of these methods will damage the shingles on your home’s roof.

The ideal method for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water mixture and then let it sit. This mixture will kill all organic organisms on your home’s roof without reducing its lifespan.

7. Clean up the Front

The front of your house is going to be what most people passing by see, so make the best impression possible for visitors and for yourself! Coming home to a well-maintained exterior will immediately improve your day, and will even encourage you to spend a lot more time outdoors.

You can clean your porch with soap and water or a good power wash. Clean cobwebs and mud off of the front door, and consider painting it a new color for a really bright look! Clean overlooked areas such as the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Outdoor Tools

You will probably be spending much more time outside, so spring is a great opportunity to organize everything you will need for outdoor work.

Gardening tools and pool care equipment should all have a specific area outside your house – somewhere that it is safe from weather and not in sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore to anyone. Taking the time to organize in the spring allows you to enjoy the outside of your house much more during the time of year that you spend the most time outdoors.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your yard, trees and garden bushes make a big impact on the look of your house.

Remove weeds near your flower beds and walkways, till up places where you’ll be planting in the future and brush off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed killer to make yard care easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all the bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After being unused for months, your gas or charcoal grill could need a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food particles from your grill are unappetizing, but even worse they can also make you and your family sick.

Wipe it down to remove leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber (so you do not leave behind metal particles that can sometimes get into food) and a dish soap or degreaser.

You can probably finish these jobs after a few weekends but it will be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call! Glendale Pressure Washing offers professional residential exterior cleaning services for patio cleaning, roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, pressure washing and more!
